Day 1 of Pilgrimage to Santiago: linking pilgrims at home and in Spain!

What a privilege to walk in the footsteps of the Saints! I would love to be there but I cannot so instead, I can join the pilgrims in spending time reflecting and praying. Why go on a pilgrimage? Everyone has different reasons but for me, it would have been to have time and space to reflect and maybe hear Gods voice? I am sure God will speak through other pilgrims. The physical demands of long distance walking creates a different environment within us that maybe helps us ‘listen’ to God and other pilgrims during the experience. I am not at all certain this can help clarify thinking (especially when everything aches!) but it shines a different light into the dark corners of our minds.

So if you would like to join us, my plan is to post a thought and question each day for us all to reflect on. There won’t be any great words of wisdom! I will finish each day with a prayer to unite the pilgrims at home and the pilgrims on their way to Santiago!

As a start: “If the only prayer you said in your whole life was ‘Thank you’ that would suffice” Meister Eckhart. Do you agree?

God of Creation, be with those travelling to Santiago. Give them strength and keep them safe on the way. May they benefit from this time and come back to us inspired and refreshed. Bless those who remain that they will also benefit from this time by walking with the pilgrims in spirit. Through Christ our Lord, Amen
