“Kind words are short and easy to speak but their echoes are endless” Mother Teresa
St James wrote a letter to all Christians and in it he wrote “The tongue is a small part of the body but it makes great boasts……. With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father and with it we curse men, who have been made in Gods likeness. Out of the same mouth comes praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. James, 3 vs 5, 9&10
It seems appropriate to take a quote from the Epistle of James as the Pilgrims are walking in his footsteps. How easy it is to say hurtful things and how hard (impossible) it is to take them back. Perhaps today, we can reflect on the challenge of how not to be a push over and to stand up for your principles but still be kind and gentle to others? Before we jump in wearing hobnailed boots, can we take time to see the issue from their stand point, and walk in their shoes, seeing the good in others and valuing their gifts?
Lord God who created us all in your own image as individuals with special characteristics and gifts but also with weaknesses, give us eyes to see the good in others and to value their talents and skills. We pray that the Pilgrims will have the opportunity to talk to other Pilgrims along the way and learn from them. For those of us at home, give us the opportunity to talk to someone new today and to learn from them too. To the glory of God. Amen
