Aldborough Festival Service 21st June 2020

Dear friends,

This Sunday’s service was originally planned to be part of the programme of the Northern Aldborough Festival 2020. Sadly, of course, the festival had to be cancelled this year. Nevertheless, it felt important to mark the importance that music plays in our corporate lives, and so we are delighted to be able to share this act of worship with you today which includes music by Elgar, Dyson, Rutter, Williams, Lindley and Thorne, and which is kindly recorded for us for this weekend by some wonderful musicians from this County and from Norwich Cathedral. We are also delighted that Canon Barry from Ripon Cathedral is our preacher. We hope you will join us as we celebrate the benefits of music to our souls, and as we pray for, and support all musicians at this time.

The order of service is included here, as is the text of Canon Barry’s sermon:

Individuals have not been named in our prayers this Sunday, but please be assured you are continuing to be prayed for, and those who ask will be included in our zoom morning prayers on Monday at 9am, to which all are welcome.

Warmest wishes to all,

Karen

Worship for Sunday 14th June

Dear St Raphael friends,

I hope you are enjoying the weekend – especially now the sun has returned!

The link for your service for Trinity 2 is here

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Cj3Sg1vIWg

I have attached an order of service which you might like to use for the words of the hymns – Trinity 2 Faith-filled lives and, for those without access to YouTube, a summary of the interview with Margaret Crawford – Year A Trinity 2 Interview with MC (2)

I was delighted to be able to chat to Margaret this week about her work as the Branch leader of the Mother’s Union, and I am sure you will all enjoy listening to her.

I am also grateful to Logan and Austen from Aldborough, who provide the accompaniment to one of our hymns on the bagpipes.

With love to you all,

Karen

Worship for Pentecost, Sunday 31st May

Happy Birthday! This weekend is Pentecost – the birthday of the Church.

To celebrate, you will find in this week’s all age service lots and lots of faces you know and love – including a couple of surprise guests! You will also encounter party bags, a giant cat (who was to difficult to edit out) and something to reflect on at home.

I do hope you will be able to join us to celebrate this important feast at 10am on Sunday, or at another time that suits you.

As the words to the hymns are on the screen, you will not need to print out an order of service this week, but one is included here in case you prefer to follow this way: order of service Pentecost 2020

With love and prayers,

Karen

Worship for Sunday 17th May

Dear friends,

As you know you have a choice of two main services this week.

Your Sunday morning service can be found here, and you can watch it anytime you like.  Here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrj2nJjRcOA. It is a shorter service, with more reflection and you don’t need printed responses for this one, so just sit back and let it wash over you. You might enjoy seeing some inside views of our Churches this week, and hearing them being prayed in.

The Zoom Pet service is at 4pm on Sunday and you already have the details to join that – again, you don’t need anything printed for this. Please be prompt as this service, of course, is live so we will see one another in real time. I am sure this will be an exciting event for all – you are welcome to join whether or not you have pets!

With love and prayers,

Karen

VE Day Thanksgiving, 8th May

Dear Friends,

I hope you are able to enjoy the VE Day celebrations – the weather looks as though it is going to be great!

We have been encouraging people to go out into their gardens and sing! Here is the song sheet again https://boroughbridgechurches.uk/wp-content/uploads/VE_Day_songsheet.pdf

If you are feeling particularly adventurous, you might want to take tea and cakes outside and wear red white and blue. “Stray Ferret”, the Harrogate online newspaper is going to be exploring Boroughbridge and our local villages, so keep an eye out for their reporter and give them a wave!

We are suggesting people might like to follow the short VE anniversary service at about 10.50am, leading into the two minutes silence. Here is the service sheet:  VE Day 75th Anniversary

The link to the video with prayers is here

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFbHZGOfE0

Apologies that it is not livestreamed as originally promised, but it does feature some of your decorated houses!

If you would like to follow a printed copy, it is attached, but this service will work just as well without.

Do let us know how you have marked the day, and feel free to send photos or videos!

With love,

Karen
