Welcome

Welcome to the United Parish of Aldborough, Boroughbridge, Dunsforth, Minskip and Roecliffe

Minskip Cookbook

Minskip villagers, led by the tireless Olly Backhouse, have created and published a special Lockdown Cookbook, which is the perfect stocking filler or outright gift this Christmas. With over 75 illustrated recipes for all sorts of gorgeous food, as well as an exciting array of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, the Minskip Lockdown Cookbook is a joyous celebration of cooking in these testing times. The proceeds of the sale of this book go to St Johns’s Church, Minskip which, together with other local organisations, were able to identify who was at particular risk during the pandemic, work out what could be done and to whom to send help. This has allowed many to rediscover a meaningful sense of togetherness and responsibility that creates a community that we all like to live in.

The Lockdown Cookbook costs £10 and is available now from Olly Backhouse Tel: 01423 329158; Robert Beaumont 01423 322365; and Dorothy Wilson 01423 322712. It is also available from some local retail outlets.

A Visit from our Bishop!

We are delighted to let you know that Bishop Helen-Ann will be coming to join and lead us in worship on the 1st November at St James Boroughbridge at 10am for the festival of “All Saints”.  Even if you normally come to a morning service in our Parish, or a service at St James, you will need to book a pew to ensure your place.  All our usual COVID secure implementation, including good social distancing,  will be in place, to ensure that this is a safe, as well as a joyful, occasion

Please contact our Administrator, Caroline, if you would like to attend.

Virtual Music Concert

We do hope you enjoy our virtual music concert. With very grateful thanks to all our musicians who contributed to it!

Church Services

We are delighted to announce that, following a meeting with our UPCC, we are going to begin a phased reopening of our Church buildings from Sunday 19th July. We understand that it will not feel like the right time for everyone to come back to Church and want to support you whatever the right decision is for you. We are going to make sure that communication carries on through the St Raphael network, and through worship online whilst we begin to have some services back in Church. (For the latest online services, please see ‘Worship Resources‘ on this site).

For those of you who are planning to come back to the building, Church will, you will not be surprised, look a little different for a while, and in order to keep everyone safe, we have needed to put a number of measures in place, including focussing for now on making our two largest Churches available for Sunday worship first, so that we do not have to turn anyone away due to social distancing limitations.

Please go to the Church Services Page to see what’s coming up next.

When you come to Church, we would like you to bring your own order of service with you, and take it away at the end. You can download the orders of service below. If you do not have access to a printer, please contact our administrator Caroline (see Who’s Who page).

A Message from St James, Boroughbridge

Dear friends,
During this difficult time we have been doing our best to support not just our regular members, but the whole community by volunteering, running our on line worship and school assemblies, providing funerals and running our local foodbank hub, as well as praying for our town. We are presently looking at ways we can safely be open for Sunday worship, funerals and small weddings in Church and should have that information for you very shortly.
Like many organisations, we have been left in a very financially precarious situation in these months. Our income comes from those who generously and sacrificially give on a weekly basis, so when our services stopped, our income plummeted.
We want to be able to continue to provide worship, community support, baptisms, funerals and weddings, as well as eventually when the time is right restart our toddler group, and to be here long term for you.
We understand this is a financially vulnerable time for many of us at the moment, and please don’t feel bad if you can’t help at the moment. But if you are able to help us get back on our feet, that would be warmly welcomed. We have just launched a new text giving service to make this easier.
It’s simple to use:

  • To donate £5 text STJAMES 5 to 70460
  • To donate £10 text STJAMES 10 to 70460
  • To donate £20 text STJAMES 20 to 70460

Texts cost your donation plus one standard rate message

If you would like to give on an automatic monthly basis

  • To donate £5 a month text MONTHLY 5 to 70460
  • To donate £10 a month text MONTHLY 10 to 70460
  • To donate £20 a month text MONTHLY 20 to 70460

These texts cost your donation plus two standard rate messages.
You will receive a receipt message every time you donate –this tells you how to cancel your donation should you wish -which is by texting STOP to 70085 at any time.
Gift aid, if you are a UK tax payer, by following the link on the follow up message your donation can be increased by 25%.
We are very grateful for any support and look forwards to welcoming you back into our building within the next few weeks.

St James’PCC

In line with government guidelines, the Church leadership team are carefully considering how some of our Churches might begin to be safely opened again in the next few weeks for small weddings and small funerals. We will keep you updated on our progress and hope to be able to welcome you through our doors again soon – Link to the current C of E Guidance
